Referrals To Other Agencies
Referrals to other agencies are provided regularly, by Family Services staff, to families in need of assistance. Some of these agencies include:
- Department of Social Services
- Hagerstown Housing Authority
- Community Action Council
- CASA
- The Family Center
- Any other community agency able to provide assistance to the family

What does a Family Service Worker do?
Family Services staff are assigned to every Head Start family to provide support, information, and referrals in response to the needs of the family.
Services include:
- Regular contacts in accordance with the family's needs.
- Information and referrals to community agencies.
- Workers assist in the classroom and link parents to other parts of the program.
- Parents are assisted in getting health care and other services for their children.
- Training sessions are provided for parents on topics of interest.
Parent Meetings/Trainings
Many Parent Trainings were held at Head Start during this school year. Topics included:
- Dare to Be You – Positive parenting course for parents and their children – held in 12 week sessions (Fall/Spring)
- Hagerstown Community College
- Hagerstown Business College
- Maryland Job Service – interviewing, job searching, job retention
- Discussion groups for parents regarding their child's behaviors
- F&M Bank – budgeting and credit
- Nutrition training
- Kindergarten transitioning
- Second hand smoke awareness
Fatherhood
